Sleep Hygiene

Woman sleeping soundly on a bedSleep hygiene is an important part of everyone's life. In order to get the appropriate amount of treatment each night, you need to make sure that you are giving yourself the best chance at quality sleep. Of utmost importance is creating a regular schedule that you adhere to every night. You should try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, which means 7 days a week. Sleeping in on the weekends only serves to make your system unbalanced. In addition, you should do some of the following:
•  Ensure that you have a dark, quiet and comfortable room to sleep in
•  Try to avoid daytime naps
•  Maintain healthy eating habits and avoid eating late at night
•  Keep a healthy weight
•  Do not drink alcohol or take any drugs within a few hours of bedtime
•  Exercise in the morning or afternoon, any evening exercise should be relaxing, such as Yoga
•  Make sure to sleep only in your bed
•  If you cannot sleep, don't toss and turn, get up and try to do something that will make you tired
•  Get plenty of exposure to natural light during the day

Healthy sleep hygiene as is outlined in the above tips can help you to have a good sleep pattern and positive daytime awareness. It can help you to avoid having sleep problems and eliminate the need to undergo rigorous testing and treatments to find a solution.
